| San Diego Flight Training Training to become a commercial pilot can be a very complicated, expensive, and daunting experience. There are three certificates involved. These are Private Pilots License, Instrument Rating, and Commercial Pilots License. Training can be completed under either FAA Part 141 or Part 61 guidelines. Each part has there advantages and disadvantages. The San Diego Flight Training Commercial Pilot Program that I have structured comprises both Part 141 and Part 61 training curriculum. Private Pilots License and Instrument Rating are completed under Part 141 in order to keep student pilot on structured and methodical training path. Commercial Pilots License is completed under Part 61 in order to minimize ground training expense. Minimum flight hours required for CPL Part 141 is 190 hours total and CPL part 61 is 250 hours. It is rare to see a student pilot finishing CPL Part 141 in 190 hours. Most will take 225 hours or more. Be wary of flight schools that quote low priced CPL programs based on minimum FAA 141 ground and flight training hour requirements. Ground and San Diego Flight Training required to complete Licenses /Ratings will vary by student. It is extremely rare to see students complete courses under Part 141 minimum ground and flight hour requirements. Students who exceed 141 minimums are often unpleasantly surprised by the additional ground and flight hours necessary for them to finish. AFTS pilot packages are based on average student pilot hours required to complete courses. This avoids false advertising and unpleasant financial surprises.
