| Directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting), the chronology-twisting Slumdog Millionaire begins seconds before its climax. But before the climax, the film depicts 18-year-old Jamal痴 lifelong journey to the set of the Indian version of the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Sensation-rich, amusing, harrowing and suspenseful, Slumdog Millionaire is a movie-length explanation of how slum-dog kid Jamal gets within one answer of winning 20 million rupees. Game-show style, the film offers four possible answers: A) He cheated. B) He痴 lucky. C) He痴 a genius. D) It is written. Through episodic flashbacks, the story follows Jamal and his older brother, Salim, from childhood in the vast slum where their mother is killed, to train-jumping adventures to a stint as petty thieves. As brothers often are, Jamal and Salim are contrasting personalities. Salim痴 opportunistic law breaking and Jamal痴 willingness to play along help the boys survive. Two sets of well-cast Indian child actors portray Jamal and Salim as children.
